1st Grade Teacher
Texas girl here! I grew up in Texas and graduated from Lewisville High School. I got my Bachelors of Science degree from Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, Texas, in elementary education with a specialization in Reading. Texas certified 1st– 8th grade all subjects. When I moved to Arkansas in 2005 I received my Arkansas Teacher Certification in Preschool – 4th grade, as well as 4th – 8th in all subjects.
I received my Masters of Arts in Christian Education from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas. I have started a second Masters in Reading through the University of Arkansas in Jonesboro. I have completed training in C.L.I.P. (Collaborative Literacy Intervention Project), Science of Reading, and RISE (Arkansas Reading Initiative). Basically, all that means is I love to teach children to read, spell, and write! :)
I have taught in the elementary classroom Kindergarten – 4th grade for 16 years total. This is my 2nd year at Harmony Grove and my 4th year in first grade. I really love the littles! :)
I have been married to Mark Sandy for 28 years. We have lived in 4 states—Texas, New Mexico, Tennessee and Arkansas! I married an Alabama preacher-boy and he is a die-hard Auburn fan! :) Sooo, I married into it and yes I’m a big fan too! Lol Though we have never lived in Alabama as a family, we visit there often (as well as Texas)! We moved from Tennessee to Arkansas in 2005 and have been here since! We lived in Wynne, Arkansas for 7 years (near Jonesboro) and moved to El Dorado in 2013.
My husband is pastor of Parkview Baptist Church in El Dorado and owns his own business as well—Reflection Window and Property Services.
We have two big kiddos who have recently left the nest. My daughter, Sarah Catherine, is married and living with her husband in Memphis where she teaches 10th grade English. My son, Jonathan Mark, married this summer and he and his wife live in Arkadelphia and are both finishing their last semester in Music Education. Jonathan plans to be a percussion director for high band and eventually (when he finishes his education) teach percussion at the college level. I never expected both of my children to go into education but here we are! :)
We have two sweet dogs—both adorable and loving pits, Josie and Stella. They keep life exciting at our house, to say the least!
What do I do to relax? Hmm. I enjoy reading and going on nature walks with the family and our dogs. We love board games and movies. I like to make decorative wreaths just for fun—my mom is actually the expert in that department! Honestly, most of my “free time” is spent prepping for school or church activities. :)
